Tokyo decided to farewell us with the sunniest weather yet, with blue skies and a blazing temperature of nearly 35°C plus humidity. Once we had packed our bags properly and checked out of our final AirBnB, we took the bus to Ueno Station. We decided that the 40 minute Kesei Skyliner to Narita Airport, which departs from Ueno Station, was the best option of cheap-ish but fast-ish to get to our 8.00PM flight.
We walked through a busy marketplace not far from the station, before doing a final victory lap of Bic Camera and Don Quijote to pick up last-minute snacks to bring back to New Zealand.
I had the cutest little turtle for lunch, whilst Austin got some noodles while I bought one last shirt…
We topped it all off with a short walk through Ueno Park before the heat got too much and we decided to head towards the station for our 2.00PM train.
The Kesei Skyliner was quick and painless, dropping us off in the basement of our terminal. 3 escalators later and we were smack bang in the middle of the departures area. Unfortunately, I had been a little generous with my planning and we had arrived 2 hours before checkin actually opened… but like all things Japan, the airport terminal had a mall. We’ll be flying out around 8.00PM tonight and landing in Brisbane in the early morning. Until then, here are Austin’s obligatory airport snaps:
